Bhopal: Four BJP candidates, former Vice Chairman of the Upper House, Najma Heptulla, senior leaders Kaptan Singh Solanki, Faggan Singh Kulaste and Thavarchand Gehlot, on Monday filed their nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha biennial elections from Madhya Pradesh.
All of them filed their nominations in Bhopal in the presence of MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, State BJP President, Prabhat Jha and former Rajya Sabha members Vikram Verma and Meghraj Jain.
The nominations were filed before the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Principal Secretary, Rajkumar Pandey, who is the Returning Officer for these polls.
"The BJP has fielded very capable and competent leaders for the Rajya Sabha polls and given representation to all the sections of the society including upper caste, minority, SC
and ST," Chouhan told reporters after the nominations.
Going by the numerical strength of the BJP and Congress in the State Assembly, the saffron party may win three seats on its own while for the fourth it will need four additional votes which the party is sure of getting.
The Congress candidate, senior party leader Satyavrat Chaturvedi will get elected from Madhya Pradesh this time as Congress has enough numbers with it to ensure his victory.
Chaturvedi also filed his nomination papers today. He was accompanied by the State Congress Chief, Kantilal Bhuria and the leader of Opposition in State Assembly Ajay Singh.
The BJP has 152 seats in the 230-member House while Congress has 66. BSP has 07, SP 01, Independents 03 and one seat is vacant in the State Assembly.
