Imphal: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Saturday urged people to vote for the Nagaland People's Front (NPF) backed independent candidates in the hill districts dominated by the Naga community. "We will work for better governance and remove the misunderstanding between the Manipuri and Naga communities," Rio said at an election meeting Tangkhul Naga Long Ground in prestigious Ukhrul constituency.
In Ukhrul constituency, Danny Shaija is the sitting candidate who was an independent in the last election but now contesting on BJP ticket.
Shaija is locked in a multi-cornered contest with Alfred Kangam Arethur of the Congress, Aleng AS Shimray of the NCP and S Somatai of the Trinamool Congress.
Meanwhile, Manipur's Chief Electoral Officer PC Lawkumga said 60,000 bogus voters had managed to enroll themselves in the voters list.
"We will not not allow them to cast their votes and will ensure strict orders to prevent duplication of votes", he told PTI in Imphal on Saturday.
Stating that some election observers have not yet reached interior polling stations in remote hill districts, the CEO said, attempts were being made to trace two Congress supporters who were kidnapped by militants from the hill district of Senapati recently.
