New Delhi: The rumblings in the Bihar mahagathbandhan refuse to die down. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, according to sources, is ready to seek fresh mandate in case Tejashwi Yadav, who has been booked by the CBI in a corruption case, fails to give convincing answers to the charge against him.

According to JDU sources, the chief Minister told his aides 'loktantra loklaj se chalta hai', which is an indirect reference to the bad name that the government seems to be getting in the Tejashwi Yadav case. In political circles, it is being read as a direct message to Tejashwi to come clean or quit.

The party still hasn't asked for Tejashwi's resignation and will likely take a call on the mahagathbandhan, which is propping the Bihar government, post the presidential polls.

Nitish Kumar is also not very happy with Congress' offer to mediate, JDU sources told CNN-News18.

Apart from Tejashwi, his father and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and mother Rabri Devi have also been booked. Lalu has been accused of influencing the awarding of an IRCTC tender when he was the railway minister in 2005 and accepting prime land in return. The land was allegedly transferred to Tejashwi and Rabri via a shell company.

Nitish has carefully cultivated a clean image and this controversy is causing a huge dent to his image perception.

The RJD has ruled out Tejashwi's resignation.

"Tejashwi will not resign. There is no question of his resignation," Lalu Prasad told the media on Friday after holding a nearly three-hour-long meeting with senior party leaders and legislators at his official residence.

The JD(U) has 71 MLAs, RJD 81 and the other alliance partner Congress has 27 while the BJP, which is the main opposition in the House, has 53 MLAs.
