New Delhi: The race for Uttar Pradesh Assembly is on at a feverish pitch in the state.

With the Election Commission specifying a model code of conduct for the polls, the noose is tightening on those violating it.

In the latest move the screening of a film starring a former dacoit-turned-Lok Sabha contestant has been banned by the Bhadoi district administration, as it violates the code of conduct.

Wounded that saw a March 16 release starred former bandit Seema Parihar, who is contesting Lok Sabha by-poll from Mirzapur.

The film has now been withdrawn from theatres across the state on the orders of District Magistrate Ram Surat Dubey.

Parihar, who is contesting as the Indian Justice Party candidate, claimed the administration's decision was wrong.

She said the grounds for banning the movie were not fair as notification for the by-poll on May 3 had not yet been issued.

She has now threatened to move EC against the move. PTI reports the film that’s been produced and directed by Krishna Misra is based on Parihar’s life and has played herself.

To comparisons being drawn with slain Bandit Queen Phoolan Devi, who had also represented the constituency in the Lok Sabha as Samajwadi Party nominee, Parihar said the late MP had a lot of "glamour" attached to her. "My main contest will be with the Samajwadi Party nominee," she was quoted as saying.
