Bhopal: Responding to outcries of delay in construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh’s deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Saturday assured only a Ram temple would come up at Ram Lala’s birthplace.
Maurya, who was in Madhya Pradesh to extend invitation to the public for Kumbh Mela, was replying to a pointed query on seers and several BJP leaders, including Uma Bharti, ruing the delay in construction of Ram temple.
“I wish to assure everyone that not a single brick in the name of Babur would be kept at Ayodhya and only a Ram temple would come up at Ramlala’s birthplace,” said Maurya.
Maurya said the BJP government is waiting for the Supreme Court verdict in the title dispute case, which he said would hopefully be in favour of the Ram Temple. “If the verdict is not favourable, the government would bring an ordinance,” the deputy CM said.
The senior politician however clarified that nothing would be done on ordinance till the matter is sub-judice. He also urged his Congress colleagues not to impede legal proceedings over construction of Ram temple.
The Narendra Modi government at the Centre has come under increasing pressure from Hindutva outfits, including BJP’s ideological mentor RSS, to build the temple in this term. The PM, in an interview given to news agency ANI, had also said that a decision on an ordinance will be taken after the SC verdict.
Asked whether he extended Kumbh invitation to Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, a smilingly Maurya said that as he has invited MP chief minister Kamal Nath. “So needless to say, we are inviting one and all.”
Questioned on verification of saints as there has been much tussle among the seers, Maurya said they are leaving it to the saints’ community to settle disputes internally.
People from 192 countries are expected to take part in Kumbh, which starts from January 15. “We are making all efforts to ensure safe and comfortable Kumbh for the visitors,” said Maurya.
