PM disconnected from reality: BJP on by-polls
One by-election cannot be considered a reflection on the performance of my govt, the PM had said.

New Delhi: BJP on Wednesday took digs at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his dismissive comments on congress' bypoll defeat, saying he was disconnected from the ground reality and even described him as part of the problems facing the country.

Singh, who is in South Africa to attend the IBSA Summit, had told reporters, "One by-election in a particular part of a country cannot be considered a reflection on the performance of my government or the Congress party."

The Congress candidate losing his security deposit in Hisar bypoll is being seen in some quarters as a referendum against UPA-II, which is mired in several scams. Gandhian Anna Hazare had campaigned against the Congress there.

BJP attacked Singh on his statement on the by-polls.

"The Prime Minister, from a foreign land, has made a statement. He is completely disconnected whether he is in India or on a foreign land. The Prime Minister stands diconnected. His assessment is wrong," BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.

The opposition has already declared that these bypolls, including the ones in Kadakvasla and Daraunda Assembly seats where NDA won, are an indicator of the things to come.

"The ball has started rolling. He (PM) is unaware or rather he prefers to be unaware. However, he is not part of the solution but part of the problem which the country is facing today. So, nothing better is expected from him," Rudy

said.

The BJP maintained that the PM's comments were not surprising.

"This is not a surprising statement, coming from him. He is fully responsible for the state in which the Congress is today," Rudy said.
