Mumbai: Ek lakh saitish hazaar kilometre ki yatra cricket ke liye, balle aur gend ke liye, Shah Rukh Khan aur Mukesh Ambani ko premier league bes kar kororon ekattha karne ke liye toh kiya unhone; Bhajji ki izzat bachane ki liye toh kiya... lekin Vidarbha and Buldhana ka mare hoye kisano ke liye nahi kiye ( Sharad Pawar did make a long journey to sell cricket, to save Bhajji's honour, but he did nothing for the dying farmers of Vidarbha and Buldhana)."
That is Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh taking on not just Raj Thakeray but also other political rivals like Sharad Pawar a day after the NCP supremo slammed the Samajwadi Party for fomenting trouble in Maharashtra to gain political influence.
Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, Amar Singh also played to the gallery. "All Maharashtrians are welcome in UP," he said.
He then went on target the state government. Complaining of delay in taking action on his complaint that he had received a death threat, Amar Singh warned the Maharashtra Government that his party would 'gherao' Mumbai police commissioner DN Jadhav if it failed to act.
"The state govt has not taken any action against Raj. They are trying to settle political scrores by using Raj Thackeray," he said.
Amar Singh told journalists that state Deputy Chief Minister RR Patil had assured him that action on the complaint would be taken within a week.
Clearly targetting the north Indian vote base, Amar Singh also announced a compensation package for those affected by violence in Mumbai.
As for the man who is at the centre of the storm, Raj Thackeray, while he was busy in Pune inaugurating an adventure sports event, there was more trouble for him as a petitioner filed yet another PIL against him at the Bombay High Court, seeking a CBI enquiry into the motive behind his inflammatory speeches.
"His speeches should be investigated and the subsequent violence probed. Organisations like mNS are not good for the unity and integrity of the country. They just want to spread hatred. They should be banned," Sanjay Thakur, the petitioner, said.
