New Delhi: The Election Commission on Wednesday issued show-cause notices to Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Akali Dal leader Parkash Singh Badal for allegedly violating the electoral code of conduct.
The two leaders allegedly took along hundreds of supporters when they filed nomination papers—the code of conduct forbids candidates from taking out processions at the time of filing papers.
Badal allegedly spoke to reporters inside Returning Officer’s office and used many vehicles for his procession, "seriously infringing" on the official’s right to conduct of his duties.
The Commission asked Badal why the cost of using "huge columns of vehicles" accompanying him should not be treated as part of his election expenses.
The two leaders have time till 1500 hours IST on Thursday to explain why action should not be taken against them.
