Azamgarh: The turf war between the Congress and Samajwadi Party's young turks continues. Samajwadi Party Uttar Pradesh unit chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday accused the Central Government of shying away from ordering a judicial investigation into the Batla House encounter while addressing an election rally in Azamgarh.
"The demand for a judicial investigation into Batla House encounter is justified. Everyone wants a judicial investigation into the incident then why is the Government shying away from ordering it," Akhilesh said.
Akhilesh's statement came just days after Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi had addressed a rally in Azamgarh. Rahul had taken pot shots at Akhilesh's father and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on reservation for Muslim OBCs.
Meanwhile, a notice has been issued to Rahul Gandhi and Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi by the returning officer and District Magistrate of Azamgarh.
The notice is for allegedly disrupting educational activities at the Shibli College. On January 11, students of the college had taken out a protest march and burnt Rahul's effigies over the Batla House encounter.
Rahul Gandhi had stayed at the college guest house on the night of January 10 and the protest march and the burning of the effigies took place the next day.
Following the protests male students were not allowed inside the college, only female students were allowed to meet Rahul Gandhi.
