New Delhi: In a setback for the Aam Aadmi Party government, the Delhi High Court has declined removing MK Meena as the head of Delhi's Anti-Corruption Branch. The High Court has also issued a notice to the Centre and asked for a reply in two weeks. The next date of hearing in the case will take place on the August 11.
The High Court also refused to implead Meena as party in Delhi government's plea challenging constitutional validity of Centre's notification on May 21.
Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung had appointed Meena on June 8 despite protests by the AAP-led Delhi government. The Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government had moved the Delhi High Court, challenging the Union Home Ministry's notification which said that the L-G has discretionary powers for appointments and transfers to key bureaucratic posts in the capital.
The Home Ministry had earlier issued a notification clarifying that the Governor has all powers to make appointments of Bureaucrats in Delhi.
The Delhi Government had on Saturday urged the High Court to issue directions to restrain LG-appointee Meena from entering his office and "interfering" with the functioning of the anti-graft body.
