Mumbai: Shiv Sena on Monday took potshots at its ally Bharatiya Janata Party over the massive drubbing in the Bihar Assembly elections as it barely managed to win 53 seats in the 243-member Assembly.
An editorial in Sena's mouthpiece Saamna said that the lesson from the Bihar verdict is 'humility'. The BJP didn't have their feet on the ground.
The editorial said despite spending all resources, the BJP lost the elections.
Saamna took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying he addressed about 30 rallies, but the results are not proportionate. Sena also added that if Maharashtra goes to elections today, then Shiv sena will win.
Blaming the BJP, Sena said the party did the same during Maharashtra Assembly polls, when the Prime Minister and all ministers camped in the state yet Sena won 63 seats.
On Sunday, Sena leader Sanjay Raut congratulated Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the resounding victory. "Nitish Kumar has come through as a hero this elections. It was a necessity for Bihar to have Nitish back as CM. We would like to congratulate the people of Bihar", said Raut.
He had said that elections are fought on leaders and referred to Congress' defeat in Lok Sabha when its president Sonia Gandhi was held responsible. "An election is fought by its big leaders. When UPA lost, it was a loss for Sonia Gandhi. BJP fought Bihar elections with PM Modi in the lead, BJP should accept this defeat," he added.
"Nitish Kumar has emerged as a superhero. His victory was the need in Bihar. He has done good work in Bihar. I greet him on behalf of Shiv Sena. The results in Bihar will bring a new turn to politics of the country," Raut said.
The relation between the allies have been strained for quite a long time with both the parties attacking the other on various issues. The relationship has turned so bitter that the parties contested Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation elections alone.
