Amid the ongoing hectic parleys over NDA’s third historic term, BJP leaders, including Smriti Irani and Anurag Thakur, were found notably absent from the finalised Cabinet lineup. With just a few hours left for the NDA 3.0 to take shape, the entire country is awaiting PM-designate Narendra Modi’s oath ceremony later in the evening.
Irani, the sitting Women and Child Development Minister, lost the Lok Sabha election from Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi to Congress loyalist Kishori Lal Sharma. Meanwhile, sources informed that Thakur, who won the general election from Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur, will not be retained in the Modi 3.0 Cabinet. He held the sports, and information & broadcasting portfolios in the second term of the Modi government.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, who lost to Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in a close contest from Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, is also likely to be missing from the new government.
It has been learnt that with the BJP trying to share Cabinet seats with its NDA partners this time, the saffron camp is also focussing on striking a balance between continuity and new faces as it firms up the final list of names for today’s swearing-in ceremony.
Notably, senior party leaders like Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Piyush Goyal, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Nirmala Sitharaman and Mansukh Mandaviya were seen at Modi’s tea party held in the morning today, a custom he has followed before the Cabinet formation exercise since 2014.
Here’s a list of ministers, who are likely to get dropped in Modi Cabinet 3.0:
