Many alleged that the reference to a snake in the quote was to Lalu Prasad.

Patna: Tempers are rising ahead of Bihar assembly elections. After Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's tweeted saying those of good character cannot be influenced by bad company, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has alleged that the remark was targeted at party chief Lalu Prasad.

Quoting a verse of poet Rahim, Nitish had said, "One who has a good character cannot be influenced by bad company, as the venomous snake can’t change the very quality and purity of sandal tree." Many alleged that the reference to a snake in the quote was to Lalu Prasad.

However, Nitish clarified his remark saying that he never targeted Lalu. " I have gone to tweeter so that people can ask me questions. I give answers to most of them and out off all the answers, this is what grabbed your attention, you are not even interested in the other answers,"he said.

The RJD chief also replied in a tweet tried to diffuse the situation saying an unnecessary controversy is being created. "Nitish just clarified that he spoke in the reference to BJP," he said.
