Sonia calls emergency meeting to discuss breakaways
A number of UPA allies have shown signs of leaving the alliance.

New Delhi: To evaluate the party's chances of forming the next government in the Centre, Congress President Sonia Gandhi has called an emergency meeting of senior party leaders like Pranab Mukherjee and Digvijay Singh to discuss the parties' ties with allies.

Congress has, of late, lost some crucial allies with PMK looking join Jayalalithaa's AIADMK and RJD and LJP teaming up against the party in Bihar.

The post-poll scenario is also expected to be discussed.

Congress is reportedly looking at weaning away parties like the Janata Dal (United) from the NDA.

Speculation was rife Tuesday that Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss would step down as his party, the PMK, had decided to align with the AIADMK.

However, Ramadoss laid it to rest saying the party would decide on Thursday about its poll alliance and dismissed talk of his stepping down as "rumours".

What's your reaction?
