Sonia to be accompanied by Rahul on China trip

Even as Indian communists make life difficult for the Government over Indo-US nuclear deal, Congress President Sonia Gandhi has accepted the inviation of communists next door.

Sonia will leave along with her son and AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi for China on Thursday on a five-day visit on the invitation of Gandhi's of Chinese President Hu Jintao.

The visit – purported to boost bilateral relations between the two Asian giants - will be Sonia’s first visit to China after taking over as party chief.

News agency PTI reports senior party leader Karan Singh, AICC General Secretary Prithviraj Chavan and Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma are also in the high-level delegation.

The Congress President will be in Beijing on Thursday and on October 26. She will visit Xiang on October 27 and Shanghai on October 28.

Her visit would be the first by a foreign leader after the conclusion of CPC's National Congress, its most important five-yearly event, at which Hu was re-elected the party boss for another five-year term.

She had last visited China in 1996 and her planned trip in 2003 was cancelled.
