A BJP worker was hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Tamil Nadu’s Sivagangai on Saturday night. The victim, identified as Selvakumar, was the BJP district secretary of Sivagangai. He was attacked while returning home from the brick kiln he owned on a two-wheeler.
According to an India Today report, a group of men surrounded Selvakumar and hacked him to death before leaving him on a roadside. Passersby spotted him lying in a pool of blood and notified the authorities. Police arrived at the scene to find Selvakumar dead. His body was then shifted to a government hospital.
Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai slammed the ruling DMK government for the law and order situation in the state. “Ever since the DMK came to power, Tamil Nadu has become the capital of murders. Anti-socials have no fear of the government or the police. The Chief Minister, who has the police in his hands to maintain law and order, is running a political drama day in and day out,” Annamalai wrote in an X post.
He also offered condolences to Selvakumar’s family and assured support from the party.

On the other hand, Sivagangai MP Karti P Chidambaram claimed there was “no political angle” to the murder of the BJP worker.
“Spoke to Sivagangai District SP regarding the murder, who said that the murder was due to enmity between two groups and assured the arrest of the suspects. No political angle to this. But the growing frequency of murders is worrisome”, an X post by Karti Chidambaram said.
Meanwhile, villagers, supporters of Selvakumar and BJP workers staged a protest against his killing by blocking the road and refusing to accept his body. They demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits.
Heavy police force has been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
