Bhubaneshwar: The abduction of BJD MLA from Laxmipur, Jhina Hikaka, by the Naxals was not just to secure the release of jailed rebels, but had a political angle behind it. Sources say the 37-year-old Hikaka was abducted because Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh leader Nachika Linga pushed the Naxals to abduct the MLA and ask for his resignation.
Sources add that Linga has political ambition and wants to become the Lakshmipur MLA after contesting elections.
As Hikaka was very popular in Laxmipur so Linga was fining it very difficult to challenge the sitting MLA. Source say he hatched the plan in consulation with the Naxal leaders as the rebels depend on Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh to carry out their activites in the region.
Hikaka was abducted abducted from Koraput district on March 24 and was finally released on April 26 after he gave it in writing to the Naxals that he would resign as an MLA.
Naxals had made demands in exchange for Hikaka's release including the release of 29 of their cadres. The government agreed to release 25.
However, the government refused to accept other demands like - complete halt of Operation Greenhunt and withdrawal of security forces from tribal areas.
