Coimbatore: A relative of Sasikala, estranged aide of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister j Jayalalithaa, was arrested in Coimbatore on Friday on charges of abduction for ransom, extortion and criminal conspiracy.
According to the police, Ravanan's arrest followed a complaint by one Ravikumar, a contractor at Sirumugai, alleging that he was abducted by him on October 9 last and Rs 10 lakh was sought as ransom for his release and to continue his business.
He alleged that he was forcibly taken in a car by Ravanan's aide, Mohan, and some henchmen to a godown in Tiruchirapalli and threatened of dire consequences if he failed to pay the money or complained to police.
As he was kept in captivity in an oil godown, his friend delivered the money, Ravikumar said in his complaint.
A case was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), police said, adding, Mohan was also arrested.
Meanwhile, a BJP city office bearer, K R Radhakrishnan has filed a complaint with the anti-land grabbing cell alleging that \Ravanan had grabbed land worth Rs 5 crore in the district, police said.
