Medak: After an array of rallies by Congress top brass including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, it was Congress President Sonia Gandhi who took to campaigning in Telangana on Sunday in a last ditch effort to woo voters.
Addressing a rally in Medak, Sonia accused the Telangana Rashtra Samithi of betraying the Congress which had fought against all odds to make Telangana a reality. The Congress party was in for a shock when the TRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao announced that TRS would not join hands with the Congress ahead of polls.
"TRS betrayed us. It was not an easy task to convince everyone on Telangana," said Sonia charging the rival party.
"The TRS chief was not present in Parliament when the Telangana Bill was tabled, this shows his seriousness," she added.
The UPA Chairperson continued the tirade on another rival party TDP as she accused it of being communal. "TDP has shown its real communal face by allying with the BJP," she said. The TDP which was earlier a part of the NDA joined back the BJP-led camp recently, which came as yet another blow for the Congress as it stares at a bleak poll prospect both in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had addressed his first ever poll rally in Telangana.
