Lucknow: Stepping up the pressure on the Uttar Pradesh government for probe into the death of journalist Jagendra Singh, UP Governor Ram Naik has urged Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to conduct an impartial investigation. There are allegations that Singh was burnt to death for posting comments on Facebook against Samajwadi Party minister Ram Murti Verma.

As far as Verma's resignation is concerned, Naik said that said the Chief Minister should take the final call on the issue. Though he added that "if he remains on the post it will create doubt in the minds of people."

UP-based journalist Jagendra Singh died of burn injuries after he was allegedly burnt alive by some local policemen on June 1. Singh's family has claimed that he was burnt alive allegedly on the direction of Verma.

Singh's family is demanding the resignation of the minister along with a CBI probe into the matter.

After the ruling SP government ruled out an immediate action against the minister, senior party leader Shivapal Singh Yadav said that Verma would not be removed without full inquiry into the alleged death of the journalist.

Further adding salt to the wounds of Singh’s family, Minister Parasnath Yadav on Monday expressed that the death of the journalist must have been written in his destiny.

According to the reports, Singh had written about the MLA in newspapers accusing him of evil practices regarding illegal mining and forced occupation of land etc.
