New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has hit out at the Uttar Pradesh government, saying Centre is sending funds for development but it does not reach the people.
"Ministers in Uttar Pradesh are corrupt. There is no scarcity of funds. Centre is sending sufficient funds to UP but benefits do not reach the people," Rahul said.
"Our government has brought employment to the villages from cities through MNREGA. Congress party works for farmers," he added.
The Congress leader began the second leg of his UP campaign on Tuesday. Rahul is taking his campaign for a Congress revival to the OBC-Muslim stronghold in the central UP, long considered a pocket borough of Samajwadi Party boss Mulayam Singh Yadav.
His tour started from Badaun and will cover most parts of western and central UP.
Earlier, Samajwadi workers showed black flags to Rahul Gandhi and attempted to block his cavalcade.
"Around 50 to 60 members of SP attempted to block cavalcade of Rahul Gandhi while he was proceeding towards Badaun after landing at Dhanipur airport," Senior Superintendent of Police Satyendra Veer Singh said.
He said that about 15 SP activists were detained as they tried to breach the security cordon of Gandhi, who is an SPG protectee.
The Congress leader is scheduled to address a public meeting in Gunnaur assembly segment in Bhimnagar district.
