The nine Uttarakhand Congress rebel MLAs were working in tandem with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) much before the contentious Appropriation Bill was brought in the state assembly for vote. The rebel MLAs along with those from the BJP had signed a letter expressing no-confidence in Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal before a division was sought, according to documents accessed by CNN-News18.
They had signed on a letter written by Leader of Opposition in Uttarakhand Assembly Ajay Bhatt to the Governor seeking dismissal of the Harish Rawat government after the late night drama on March 18.
Kunjwal had disqualified the nine Congress MLAs under the anti-defection law hours after imposition of Presidents rule in the state on March 27.
The rebel Congress MLAs - mostly those owing allegiance to former Uttarakhand CM Vijay Bahuguna - are Harak Singh Rawat, Amrita Rawat, Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion, Shaila Rani Rawat, Pradip Batra, Subodh Uniyal, Shailendra Mohan Singhal and Umesh Sharma.
