Tamil actor Kavin, who is still a budding artist in the industry and is yet to solidify his position in the entertainment industry, will soon be seen in a film titled Star, which is directed by Elan. While most production houses that make films with starlets who are still in the struggling phase play it safe with a low budget of Rs 4-6 crore, Star will reportedly have a higher budget.
Rise East Entertainment, which is bankrolling the film, reportedly allocated Rs 8 crore for the making of Star, which later reportedly shot up to Rs 12 crore. This is unusual for a project starring a relatively smaller star but Rise East Entertainment is ready to make a gamble in this regard.
Initially, Harish Kalyan was selected to portray the lead role, but he was later replaced by Kavin. The film, initially announced in August last year with the working title ‘Kavin’s Next,’ officially received its title a few days later. Principal photography began in June 2023, and the majority of the filming is taking place in Chennai. The movie features music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography by Ezhil Arasu K and editing by Pradeep E Ragav.
The production company is keen to sell the digital and television broadcast rights of the film before the film’s release. Kavin’s market value may not be top-notch but his last two films Lift and Dada did good business and received favourable reviews. Hence many top OTT platforms have expressed interest in buying the streaming rights of Star. According to reports, the producers are asking for quite a big sum from the OTT platforms, which has left negotiations at a standstill. Additionally, the financial year is ending in March.
Therefore, negotiations for the OTT rights have been postponed so that business can be discussed in April. Due to this, the release of Star, which was slated to release on April 12, is likely to be postponed
