Yash-starrer KGF has completed the glorious 5 years of its release today. The action drama is undoubtedly a milestone in Indian Cinema that paved the way for the dramatic evolution of Pan Indian Cinema in the entertainment industry. With new age cinematic experience and Yash’s charismatic presence on screen, the film turned out to be a nationwide sensation with fans trying to copy the actor’s hairstyle and body language. From the songs to the story and the star cats, every aspect of the film has been highly appreciated over these years owing to which the makers even released the second part of the film last year.
Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment dropped a post on X to mark the occasion and wrote, “Celebrating the monster that we call KGF. #5YearsOfKGFChapter1 @TheNameIsYash @prakashraaj @Srinidhi_Shetty #PrashanthNeel @VKiragandur #KVRamaRao @bhuvangowda84 @RaviBasrur #Shivakumar #Srikanth @ritesh_sid @FarOutAkhtar @J10Kassim @vishalrr @chouhanmanoj82 #KarthikGowda @hombalefilms #AAFilms @DreamWarriorpic @PrithvirajProd.” As per the sources, the Hindi rights of KGF 2 were sold to Excel Entertainment for nearly Rs 90 plus crore ahead of its release.
The movie, released on December 21, 2018, was written and directed by Prashanth Neel. Produced by Vijay Kiragandur under the banner of Hombale Films, it featured a huge cast, including Yash, Ramachandra Raju, Srinidhi Shetty, Vasishta N Simha, Achyuth Kumar, Anant Nag, Archana Jois, TS Nagabharana, B Suresha and Malavika Avinash playing the pivotal roles. The film led Yash to become a pan-India star overnight.
The film restored the faith of the masses in the commercial potboiler cinema. A different story high on mother-son emotions, thrilling action sequences, and a never-before-seen climax contributed to the film’s immense success at the Indian box office.
Speaking of its storyline, the film revolves around Rocky working for a prominent gold mafia in Bombay. In an attempt to seek power and wealth to fulfil his mother’s promise, he collaborates with the leaders of the gold mafia to assassinate Garuda, the son of the founder of Kolar Gold Fields which leads to various twists and turns in the plot of the story.
