Although Pei didn’t reveal further details about the upcoming smartphone, he acknowledged that the phone “may or may not” feature higher specs than the OnePlus 2.

New Delhi: The hype around the OnePlus 2 hasn’t simmered down and the company chief has already set the pulse racing by announcing plans for a second new smartphone to be unveiled this year.

In his interview with USA Today, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei revealed, “there is going to be a second phone this year. Hopefully for Christmas.”

The recently launched OnePlus 2 with the new USB Type-C port is currently the hottest of smartphones available at an affordable price.

Although Pei didn’t reveal further details about the upcoming smartphone, he acknowledged that the phone “may or may not” feature higher specs than the OnePlus 2.

The company has been long rumoured to be working on a 'mini' version of its flagship smartphone. Earlier, it was speculated that a OnePlus One mini would be introduced. While that didn't materialise, the latest announcement by Pei hints at a possible OnePlus 2 mini.

He merely said that, “It's going to be amazing, but today I'm not going to talk about it.”

We could expect the USB Type-C to be retained and a screen size to be narrowed down from the current 5.5-inch size of OnePlus 2.

OnePlus 2, the OnePlus One successor boasts of some powerful features which the company claims won’t be available on other devices until the newest version of Google’s Android OS, the Android M, is released.

It has been priced at Rs 22,999 for 16GB model and Rs 24,999 for the 64GB variant. Overseas, it has been priced at $329 and $389 for the two variants.

In Pei's words, OnePlus wants to, “make the best Android phone, and put as much care into the product as Apple puts into their products.”
