Apple WARNS Users About Charging Apple Watch With These Chargers: What We Know
Apple notes in a support page that Apple Watch owners should only charge using chargers made by Apple and those with Apple MFi certification. Here's why.

Are you using a non-certified charger to charge your Apple Watch? If you are, Apple has warned that doing so could result in a reduced battery lifespan and slower charging over time.

As spotted by MacRumors, Apple notes in a support page that Apple Watch owners should only charge using chargers made by Apple and those with Apple MFi certification. Failure to do so may result in bad battery life over time, slow charging, and repeated chimes.

However, if you are not able to identify official Apple accessories or Apple MFi ones, Apple has listed a few points and images that can help you identify them.

“Authentic charging connectors made by Apple are white. Some Apple Watch chargers have text and regulatory markings on the charging cable,” Apple notes. It added, “Chargers that are not made by Apple might have different colors, text, or other designs on the surface of the charging connector.”

Moreover, it has also listed the model numbers that official Apple Watch chargers come with, and they are as follows: A1570, A1598, A1647, A1714, A1768, A1923, A2055, A2056, A2086, A2255, A2256, A2257, A2458, A2515, A2652, A2879.

There is also another way to check the manufacturer of your Apple Watch charger:

You can connect your Apple Watch charger to your Mac, head to the Apple menu, go to System Settings, click General in the sidebar. Next, click on About, then System Report, click USB, and finally choose your Watch charger to see the details.

That said, it common for people to cheap out on things like chargers and cables, but this is often a cause of lot of mishaps, and in this case, reduced lifespan. So, while you initially save some money going for a non-branded charger or cable, it bites you in the long term. We suggest only buying first-party or certified third-party chargers only.

What's your reaction?
