Google Could Allow ChatGPT As Default Voice Assistant On Android Phones? Here’s What We Know
Google is working on its new avatar of Google Assistant that could become a rival to ChatGPT on Android phones.

Android users could soon have ChatGPT as their default voice assistant for different commands like checking the weather, tracking the traffic in their area and latest score updates. Latest reports hint that Google could let its users change their default voice assistant on Android phones. What this means is that, you can manually change the voice assistant which has mostly been Google Assistant for Android users.

But having ChatGPT as an option will surely appeal to millions of Android users, if the update does eventually come to the public. Google hasn’t officially shared the details for this big change on Android, but thanks to reliable tipster Mishaal Rahman, it seems Android is being readied for these updates in the coming months.

The ChatGPT app on Android has hinted at the new option, which could make the OpenAI-owned chatbot as the default option for Android phones.

It is interesting to see Google consider these changes, especially when it has its ChatGPT rival in the works and already available in the form of Gemini Nano but only on the Pixel 8 Pro model as of now. Having said that, Google Assistant is getting a new avatar with the integration of Bard AI in the coming weeks which could give it further ammunition to compete with ChatGPT.

Also, one cannot discount the value of having an established voice assistant deliver results, compared to a powerful yet slightly undercooked AI chatbot for smartphones. After all, OpenAI has been criticised recently for its vague policies of scouring for data on which its AI models are trained and developed.

The company is even facing copyright lawsuits from authors and media organisations because of its malpractices. So, until OpenAI manages to shed its tag of stealing data, people might feel safer to use Google’s existing features than put their privacy at risk, which becomes easy when the AI chatbot has access to your smartphone.
