Motorola Could Ditch the Moto X Branding for Its Flagship Phone Series
Motorola, reportedly, will do away with the Moto X branding and launch its new flagship phones under a new series called Moto Z.

Motorola, which has been selling its flagship smartphones under the Moto X brand for three years now, reportedly, will do away with this branding and will launch its new flagship phones under a new series called Moto Z.

It, so far, has already been reported by VentureBeat, which says to have seen the company's marketing material around it. Motorola, however, has not confirmed it yet.

Motorola, which is now owned by Lenovo, has been long rumoured to unveil the new Moto X devices with a modular design at the Lenovo Tech World 2016 on June 9.

But if this new report is to be believed, the upcoming phone will be called the Moto Z - and not the Moto X.

It may not appear to be a major change, but doing away with the name of the flagship lineup's brand is unusually not common.

Nevertheless, if this turns out to be true, it would be a third such incident this year. HTC, which started with the One brand in 2012, dropped it this year and called the new flagship HTC 10. Sony also moved from Xperia Z to Xperia X.

Speculations are rife that Motorola will unveil the new Moto flagship in two editions - codenamed Vertex and Vector Thin. The former will be a regular edition, while the latter will be the premium one.

If we go by the rumours, the premium edition (i.e. Vector Thin) will be slimmer than the regular Vertex.

According to VentureBeat, both the phones will have modular backplates, which suggest that users will be able to snap different accessories onto the back of the phones.
