WhatsApp Disappearing Text Status Feature Coming Soon: How It Works

WhatsApp, the popular Meta-owned instant messaging application, is working on a new text status feature with disappearing options, allowing users to set a temporary text status that automatically vanishes after a specified duration.

“After installing the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.24.10.73 update, which is available on the TestFlight app, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on the same feature for a future update of the app,” WABetaInfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp, reported.

As per the report, the instant messaging application is working on several improvements regarding the feature that currently allows us to associate a description with our profile. Specifically, it will give users the ability to choose a timer so that the description associated with our profile disappears after the selected period of time.

It is very important to note that the “Never” option is currently unavailable. This means that you won’t be able to associate a persistent text status to your profile in the future.

The report suggested that the introduction of the new text status feature with a timer will provide users with greater control over the visibility of their profile information. Users will be able to set a temporary text status that automatically disappears after a specified duration.

This enhanced control over the visibility of personal information contributes to increased privacy, allowing users to share temporary updates without having a persistent text status associated with their profile, it said.

“The absence of the Never option will also ensure that users have a time-limited text status, encouraging them to share an updated text status that always reflects their current thoughts or activities,” WABetaInfo said.

A new text status feature with disappearing options is currently in development and it will be available in a future update of the app.

WhatsApp is also rolling out a feature to hide the Meta AI shortcut from the Chats tab. They created this shortcut to make it easier for users to access AI-powered chats directly from the Chats tab. However, due to user complaints, the platform has now given users the option to hide these shortcuts if they prefer.
