According to reports, 27,700 boxes of country liquor have been sold.

Several shocking news stories go viral on the internet every day. Recently, one such news has garnered attention. Locals in Agra have reportedly bought Rs 17 crore worth of alcohol on the occasion of Holi. As per reports, the Excise Department has mentioned that about Rs 1.66 lakh bottles of foreign liquor have been sold in this Uttar Pradesh city in the last three days around Holi (March 24, 25, and 26). On the other hand, 27,700 boxes of country liquor have been sold. Apart from domestic and foreign liquor, beer was also in great demand. In these three days, people in Agra have bought more than 4 lakh beer cans and bottles.

Talking about the total cost of all three days, people bought foreign liquor and country liquor worth Rs 8 crore and Rs 6 crore respectively. Beer worth Rs 3 crore was sold in total. According to District Excise Officer Neeraj Dwivedi, this time the Department has made a good revenue profit on Holi as compared to last year. It is said that the sale rate of alcohol was 20 percent higher than the previous year.

Last year also, the national capital saw an influx of people who bought liquor during the festival of colours. Liquor sales in Delhi skyrocketed and broke all previous records, including the sales record for the New Year.

As reported by Times Now, on March 6, 2023, 26 lakh bottles of alcohol were sold in a single day. According to them, as per the excise department, this meant that Delhiites consumed liquor worth a total cost of Rs 58.8 crore in one day alone.

As per the reports revealed by Excise Department officials in March, there were high liquor sales during last year’s Diwali, Christmas, and New Year.

For the unversed, the Excise Department runs around 560 shops in the city. The revenue from the sale of liquor last year was also high. Reports suggest the department earned Rs 6100 crore, including Rs 5,000 crore from excise on liquor bottles and Rs 1,100 crore as Value Added Tax (VAT).
