Have you ever found yourself pondering if your job has become too exhausting? Most of us, at some point in life, plan to retire or quit our jobs and engage in other activities that bring us more joy. However, this isn’t the case for everyone. Richard Grove, the 79-year-old CEO of Ink Inc. Public Relations, has spent thirty years leading his company and has no plans to slow down. In fact, he reportedly revealed that the idea of getting retired in his 60s has never truly appealed to him. He wishes to work for as long as possible.
“I’m the founder, chairman, and CEO of Ink Inc. Public Relations. I live on a 27-acre property in Kansas and am fortunate enough to be surrounded by friends and family who support my desire to continue to work,” he told Business Insider.
According to Grove, his career began at Burson-Marsteller in New York City in 1968 and progressed through several other large PR firms and C-level stints on the corporate side. Thirty years ago, he founded Ink Inc. to go off on his own.
Reflecting on his career, Richard Grove acknowledges that many people consider retiring in their 60s, but the thought never crossed his mind.
“However, when it becomes drudgery, or I find myself bored beyond recovery, which hasn’t happened yet, I may,” he explains.
Richard Grove credited his enthusiasm to his competitive nature. “Securing media can be a chase, and the chase never gets old. There’s a lot of “no” in PR, and if you don’t embrace the chase, you’re lessening the chances to feel and earn on your client’s behalf the satisfaction of succeeding,” he added.
During his conversation, Richard mentioned that his job can be demanding with numerous expectations from clients, media outlets and employees. However, he emphasised that he has developed the skill and patience necessary to handle these demands effectively.
Richard further said he considers himself fortunate that he has continued to be in excellent health. “I’ve lost close friends and family to various ailments and remain conscious of my fortuity. I’m committed to exercising and watching my diet. I still work out several times a week. I also keep my mind sharp and am always learning.”
