A brave businessman from Kerala, M. Aslam Siddiq (28), and his three employees had a scary experience during a journey from Bengaluru to Ernakulam. Near Madukkarai, just outside Coimbatore, they were targeted by an armed gang during a highway robbery attempt.
The gang, consisting of four people in three cars, suddenly overtook Siddiq’s car on the Salem-Kochi national highway. They forced Siddiq to stop and started hitting the car with steel rods, trying to break the windshield. Thinking quickly, Siddiq tried to reverse the car to escape, but another vehicle blocked their way. However, he managed to find a gap between the two cars and sped off towards a nearby toll plaza, where there were CCTV cameras and lots of people, scaring off the attackers.

The internet praised Siddiq’s smart move, with many saying it was a lesson in using a car for self-defense. “Did you see what that driver did in the end? There is a big lesson in there. Car is a weapon. Very few people know how and when to use it in self-defence,” one user noted. Another said, “That was brilliant move by the person driving the car. Taking reverse and moving forward.”
A third added, “This looks terrifying. Just imagine you are going with your family in your car and in the middle of nowhere, a bunch of goons stop your car and try to assault you with iron rods and knives. Have to appreciate the person who was driving the car. He handled the situation well.”
For the details, Siddiq from Ernakulam runs an advertising firm in Kochi. He and his employees—Charles, Nithin, and Ajeesh—had travelled to Bengaluru two days earlier to purchase computers. Around 2:30 am, as they approached the L&T toll plaza on the Salem-Kochi national highway, the gang struck.
The masked assailants surrounded the vehicle and began smashing the windshield. One of the passengers tried to drive towards Walayar, but the gang pursued them. Upon reaching the toll plaza, the gang withdrew due to the presence of surveillance and the public. Siddiq parked the car and filed a complaint with the Madukkarai Police in the morning.
It’s believed that the gang targeted Siddiq, suspecting he was carrying a large sum of cash. Authorities have since formed a team to investigate the incident.
