Deepinder Goyal Reveals He Is 'Also The HR Guy' For Zomato, Oversees Recruitment For Entry-Level Jobs
Deepinder Goyal said Zomato doesn’t hire for senior and mid-level positions.

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal has revealed that he is also the “HR guy” for the company, dedicating much of his time to recruiting, mentoring and coaching his team. Goyal highlighted that Zomato majorly hires for entry-level positions in sales and technology.

“I spend time on whatever is the most important thing that day. So my focus changes daily and I take it day by day. I’m also the HR guy in the organisation and that takes most of the time. HR, top level, building the top layer or even the bottom layer. So, I am always recruiting, mentoring people and coaching people,” the former Shark Tank India judge told Moneycontrol.

He added that Zomato doesn’t hire for senior and mid-level positions as they want to develop the skills of their current team members.

“We’re only mainly hiring at the frontline levels. So entry-level sales, entry-level tech kind of roles. So, I still hire for those roles. So my recruitment time goes there. At senior levels, we’re not hiring even mid-level, we’re not hiring much because we have a huge talent pipeline from within the organisation now,” Deepinder Goyal added.

The CEO explained that Zomato is a community-focused organisation, which means they do not set specific targets or goals for their team members. He mentioned that Rakesh Ranjan, the CEO of Zomato Food Delivery, Albinder Dhindsa from Blinkit and Rishi Arora of Hyperpure are not given quarterly targets. Instead, their work is based on their efforts and dedication. According to him, this method helps generate better results.

Deepinder Goyal is often seen in the headlines thanks to his unique ideas. The billionaire was recently spotted delivering food alongside his wife, Grecia Munoz, in Gurugram.

Deepinder Goyal was part of the judges panel in Shark Tank India season 3, alongside, Anupam Mittal, Aman Gupta, Peyush Bansal, Namita Thapar and Ritesh Agarwal. However, the Zomato CEO has reportedly been dropped from the lineup following the objection of Swigyy, the show’s new sponsor.
