A 22-year-old mother from Poole, Dorset, England named Maisie Beth was stunned after she discovered that the hospital had handed her the wrong baby. According to the Metro, she embraced motherhood with a baby girl named Isabelle. The 22-year-old mother went to change her daughter’s nappy only to find that the baby she was holding was a boy.
After knowing this, she stormed into the maternity office demanding to know where her child, nicknamed Belle, had been taken. She told the portal, “God knows what would’ve happened, I could’ve breastfed this baby or the mum could’ve woken up to an empty crib.”
Maisie gave birth to her daughter in September 2023 and had to be monitored every two hours. This is due to the need for phototherapy and having a tube fitted into Belle’s body. Due to this reason, she was placed in a nursery. Phototherapy uses light waves to treat certain skin ailments.
According to Maisie, she went to visit Belle one night and, on her way, back to her room found the midwife in the office with Belle. Initially, the Poole woman was confused as Belle was meant to be kept in her crib due to needing phototherapy. She, however, made her way back to her room with her child. When it was time for her to return the newborn to the phototherapy crib, she made a startling discovery. Maisie realised that the child she would return to the crib was not her own but someone else’s. The midwife was not looking after Belle in the office and had given away the wrong baby.
In a panic, Maisie explained how she ran to the office to find her daughter. The midwife said that the woman looked identical to the little boy’s mother, and had confused the two when giving her the baby. According to the 22-year-old woman, her first thought was that someone had stolen the baby and she was frightened to the core due to this. She had conceived after four years of infertility and was terrified at the thought of losing her daughter. Maisie felt relief after she saw her again.
