Indian trains and overcrowding have practically become inseparable companions. Proof of this came in a viral video showcasing a swarm of ticketless passengers flooding a Jan Shatabdi Express coach. Shubhendu Rai, a frustrated passenger, aired his grievances on ‘X’, shedding light on the dismal scene inside the train, where finding a spot to stand is a luxury, let alone walking.
Rai expressed his frustration, writing, “Generally we book the tickets in advance to avoid the inconvenience at least for AC coaches, Have some dignity and respect for those who want to travel safe,” lamented Rai, detailing the discomfort experienced on the Jan Shatabdi route from Banaras to Patna.
“This is quite uncomfortable for those who travel with their family and those who book their seats in advance paying proper fare for the same but still getting uncomfortable and no such benefits,” he added, highlighting how passengers without reservations board at stations like Buxar and Dumraon.

Continuing his grievances, Rai questioned the worth of paying for amenities that were not delivered. “Why we pay for such facilities when we don’t actually get. Buxar then dumraon next heading towards aara will see some more passengers boarding without ticket in the AC coaches and will make us more uncomfortable,” he concluded, sharing another clip from the train journey.
The post quickly gained traction, drawing comments from concerned individuals. “Absolute horror,” exclaimed one user, while another remarked, “This is a routine story once you are travelling in that sector, be it any train, people don’t bother, they are not at all afraid of anyone also.” A third expressed, “This is such a bad situation of Indian railways! We never imagined it, though bullet or vande Bharat are appreciated but why you are degrading the existing services which are used by 70-80% of our population?”
Even the Railways acknowledged the incident, requesting Rai’s PNR details for further investigation.
