Noida teen, who cleared NEET UG while selling samosas on a cart, used to study for the competitive exam at night to fulfill his dream of becoming a doctor.

An 18-year-old teen, who sells samosas on a cart in Noida Sector 12, has defied all odds to crack the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Despite the challenges of his daily life, Sunny Kumar made his dream of studying medicine come true. Physics Wallah’s Alakh Pandey shared his inspiring story on social media, motivating countless NEET UG aspirants.

One of the videos shared by Physics Wallah showcases Sunny Kumar’s rented room which has notes and short notes stuck on one of the walls. The video shows Pandey reading the short notes that Kumar made for quick revision. A few seconds later, Kumar says, “Maine sab kuch hi cover kar dia, isme short notes jaisa kuch raha nahi [I have covered everything; there’s nothing left like short notes in this].”

In another video, Pandey can be seen enjoying a samosa that Kumar had fried in oil.

Kumar recalls, “Chutti hoti thi, usme ek se do ghante ka time milta tha dukan lagane or chutti hone me [After school, I had one to two hours to set up the stall].”

“Papa hain, lekin support nahi hai papa ka [My father is there, but he doesn’t support me],” he adds.

When Pandey asks him who supports him at home, Kumar replies, “Ghar me mummy bolti hai. Mummy ka full support hai [At home, it’s my mother who supports me. My mother gives me full support].”

“Mummy aap mjhe padha do, kandhe pe hath rakh do. Mujhe mummy aap kaise karke mjhe padha do. Mujhe padhna hai. Kuch banna hai mereko [Mom, you help me study, put a hand on my shoulder. I need to study. I want to achieve something],” Kumar’s mother shares.

To help Kumar realise his dreams, Pandey has offered Kumar Rs 6 lakh and promised to cover his medical college tuition fees.

Sunny Kumar’s dedication to his studies shone through as he secured an impressive 664 out of 720 on the NEET 2024 exam, even while working at his samosa stall for 4-5 hours a day.

“Bhaut baar sari raat padai karta tha phir subah aankhein dard karti thi [At times, I studied all night, which caused pain in my eyes],” HT quoted Kumar as saying.

“Dawai dekh kar interest aya, log theek kaise hote hai, ye samjhna tha isliye Biology liya [My interest was sparked by seeing medicines, and I wanted to know how people are cured, thereby choosing Biology],” the outlet further quoted him, adding, “Selling samosas won’t define my future.”
