In a recent incident in South Los Angeles, a video capturing a physical altercation between a passenger and a bus driver has gone viral. The altercation reportedly arose from a fare dispute. The video, which has been widely circulated on social media, shows the passenger pulling the driver out of the bus and then punching her while the latter attempts to defend herself by kicking the passenger. The altercation continues until the end of the video.
Fox News has shared the clip on Instagram. Since being uploaded, the clip has garnered significant attention, with many viewers expressing shock and disbelief at the situation. “Get off me!” the driver’s voice can be heard yelling.
The video shows the suspect forcibly opening the door separating the driver’s area from the rest of the bus, then grabbing and hitting the person. Despite the attack, the driver is seen fighting back, kicking the suspect multiple times in an attempt to remove her from the bus.
“Bus passenger attacks driver for refusing to accept money even though rides are free,” read the caption.
In the comment section, some users questioned the logic behind the passenger’s actions, with one user remarking, “So she was fighting for the driver to take her money? This legit just matches the energy of everything else that completely makes no damn sense in this world today.”
Others expressed concern over the lack of intervention from bystanders, with one user commenting, “Why are people not helping? How horrible are you recording and not helping the lady? This is so sad!”
One user expressed disbelief, writing, “No way I’m reading the caption right. They fought because she didn’t want to take money for a free ride!?” Another user questioned the priorities of those present, saying, “Have you ever noticed there is always someone around to videotape things like this but never to help.”
According to the Los Angeles Times, the woman involved in the altercation is homeless. This incident also highlights the challenges faced by bus drivers, who are increasingly at risk of assault from passengers. Reports indicate that the number of transit workers being assaulted has tripled in the last 15 years.
