Are you dreading Valentine’s Day because your partner has recently dumped you? As the world celebrates the day of love, the day can be a bit traumatic for people who have recently broken up. However, if it is any consolation, you can have a cute harmless revenge from your ex, orchestrated by a Springfield non-profit organisation. The endeavour is looking for a fun activity for dejected lovers this Valentine’s Day while at the same time, providing help for the local feline community.
For Valentine’s Day, the Watching Over Whiskers Feline Fund, also called WOW or Watching Over Whiskers, is holding a unique fundraising campaign. By giving Rs 4,150 to WOW through February 15, anyone can request that the organisation name a feral cat after their former partner. As part of WOW’s trap-neuter-release programme, the cat will be neutered after being captured (this fundraising is only for male animals) and then released back into its colony.
Founder and executive director of WOW, Marci Bowling, stated that she aims to earn enough money at the fundraiser to spay and release 25–30 male cats. She added that naming the neutered cats after their ex-flame will provide a strange satisfaction to the ones coping with their breakup. Marci added that it is as funny as it is cut and with this one can vent out their frustration, but in a very positive way.
As to why male cats in particular, neutering a male cat is less expensive than spaying a female cat. According to Bowling, spay surgery can cost anywhere from $65 to $100 (Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000).
This year marks WOW’s inaugural Valentine’s Day fundraiser. Although Bowling acknowledges that it’s “tongue in cheek,” she believes it will inspire people to enjoy themselves while supporting needy animals.
A few years back, California Zoo had come up with a hilariously weird offer on Valentine’s Day where you could name a cockroach after your ex-flame and then feed it to any animal. There is also an offer in Britain where you can reduce your frustration by naming your dustbin after your ex.
