Law enforcement units across various states conduct a variety of operations aimed at apprehending criminals and uncovering crimes. Occasionally, these operations resemble scenes from movies, with the police often giving them intriguing names. Rajasthan Police recently executed one such operation called Operation Lallantop, led by IG Vikas Kumar. During this operation, three suspects who had been on the run for 12 years in connection with the Phalodi murder case were apprehended.
Twelve years ago, in the Phalodi police station area, these three individuals murdered the bookkeeper of the former Sonamukhi factory and absconded with around Rs 1.5 lakh in cash. The apprehended suspects have been named as Laldev, Uday and Ramesh. After nearly two months of diligent effort, the Jodhpur Range Police team managed to capture them. The police team executed the operation in a manner reminiscent of a movie, adding to its dramatic flair and ensuring its success.
Undercover police officers maintained constant surveillance on the suspects, adopting various disguises to gather information discreetly. Some officers posed as labourers, while others disguised themselves as coconut vendors or even pretended to be cow or buffalo herders, all the while monitoring the movements of the accused.
Different teams were mobilised to carry out the operation whenever information about the suspects’ whereabouts was obtained. The accused were not minor criminals; their network extended from Bihar to Andhra Pradesh and Punjab. Apart from the Phalodi case, they were also implicated in other serious crimes including murder and kidnapping, with alleged connections to Naxalites. Each of the three arrested individuals had a reward of Rs 40,000 on their heads.
IG Vikas Kumar told Local18 that Laldev, Uday and Naresh, who worked as labourers in the Sonamukhi factory located in Khichan town of Phalodi police station, strangled factory bookkeeper Kojaram in an inebriated state and escaped with Rs 1.5 lakh cash kept with him. At that time there were neither mobiles nor CCTV cameras, so the accused could be caught. Their names, addresses and photographs were also not available.
