The upcoming King and Queen of the Ring tournament is expected to play a key role in the development of the SummerSlam later this year. WWE Chief Content Officer Paul Levesque, also recognised as Triple H, recently spoke about the topic during a press conference. The King and Queen of the Ring is the next Premium Live Event, which will be held at the Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, May 25.
According to Triple H, the winners of the show in both men’s and women’s categories will have an opportunity to take a shot at the world titles at SummerSlam. The blockbuster PLE is slated to take place at the Cleveland Browns Stadium in Ohio on August 3.
Triple H announced the bonus gift for the King and Queen of the Ring while addressing the media in Saudi Arabia. He said, “I’ll let all of you know tonight that the winner of the King of the Ring tournament and the winner of the Queen of the Ring tournament will both go on to receive championship matches with the title of their respective brands.”

The revelation has undoubtedly increased the importance of the King and Queen of the Ring event by some levels. WWE has confirmed three title matches for the event. Cody Rhodes will put his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship on the line, going head-to-head against United States Champion Logan Paul.
Becky Lynch will also defend her women’s world title against Liv Morgan. There will also be a triple-threat match featuring Sami Zayn, Bronson Reed and Chad Gable who will fight for the WWE Intercontinental title.

The event will be wrapped up with the tournament finals where the King and Queen of the Ring will be decided. The qualifying matches for the epic clashes took place on Monday Night RAW and Friday Night SmackDown.
The tournament was introduced in 1985 and was hosted annually till 2002, excluding a gap in 1992. The majority of the winners of the event later became the world champions including Triple H, Sret Hart, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and “Macho Man” Randy Savage.

Since 2006, the King and Queen of the Ring tournament has become quite infrequent due to a lack of hype among wrestling fans. The Queen of the Ring segment came into existence in 2021, with Zelina Vega securing the maiden title.
