Following the grand completion of WrestleMania 40, WWE will now let the new champions defend their titles at another Premium Live Event– Backlash. The WWE universe has been eagerly looking forward to Backlash, which will be hosted in France for the first time in history.
The event came into existence in 1999 and was considered one of the Big Five PLEs of the year. WWE discontinued the show in 2010 but once again revived it in 2016. This year, WWE Backlash will be headlined by three championship matches. Cody Rhodes, who clinched the WWE Undisputed Championship at WrestleMania in March, will put his title on the line. He will go head-to-head against AJ Styles, who triumphed over La Knight to secure his place in the main event of Backlash. The Phenomenal One, a two-time WWE champion, has recently returned to the ring after recovering from an injury.
Damien Priest will defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Jey Uso at Backlash. After defeating his brother Jimmy Uso at WrestleMania, Jay has now become the face of the Monday Night RAW. The upcoming Backlash will also play host to a WWE Women’s Championship Triple Threat Match where the current title holder, Bayley, will clash against Tiffany Stratton and Naomi.
The Backlash roster further includes a WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match featuring The Kabuki Warriors and the duo of Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill. The premium event will also have a grudge match where Randy Orton and Kevin Owens will challenge Bloodline’s Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga.
