With a few days left for the Battleground, the latest episode of WWE NXT played host to some major developments ahead of the big event. The roster included a Tag Team championship match where the title holders – Nathan Frazer and Axiom – went up against The D’Angelo Family featuring Stacks and Luka Crusifino. Apart from this, three qualifying matches took place.
Thea Hail clashed against Fallon Henley to secure a place in the NXT North American Women’s Championship.
On the other hand, Wes Lee, Josh Briggs and Joe Coffey featured in a triple-threat match to become the number-one contender for the NXT North American Championship. In the North American Championship Qualifier, Brinley Reece squared off against Jaida Parker. Let’s take a look at the detailed results of May 22’s episode of WWE NXT.
NXT North American Women’s Championship Qualifier
Ridge Holland was on the ringside to assist Thea Hain but the referee shooed him off. Hail made a dominant start to the fight. She launched a few brutal strikes on Fallon Henley, who jumped out of the squared circle to gain momentum. She came back with a shining wizard to pick up the win.
NXT Tag Team Championship Match
Stacks and Luka Crusifino pulled off a commanding start. The duo went hard on Frazer, who countered with a float-over DDT. Crusifino tried to pin down Frazer but Axion came to his rescue and broke the hold with a superkick. Frazer ultimately rolled up Stacks to retain the NXT Tag Team title.
NXT North American Championship Number-one Contender’s Match
The triple-threat match saw an enthralling start, with all three wrestlers dishing out some powerful strikes. Coffey was thrown out of the ring by Lee. Briggs went outside but was caught by Lee. Coffey then pinned Briggs while Lee landed a blow on the same opponent. Following three counts, Lee and Coffey were adjudged the winners.
NXT North American Championship Qualifier
Brinley Reece received a kick from Parker at the beginning of the fight. Reece returned with a body slam and followed it up with a front-cartwheel clothesline. Parker was quick to dodge the strike and hit her iconic teardrop hip attack to secure the win.
Lexis King vs Dante Chen
King began the match with a dropkick before launching a back-body drop. Chen got a running knee when Stone caused an interference. Chen made the most out of the opportunity and reversed King’s finisher to clinch the victory.
Natalya & Carmen Petrovic vs Lola Vice & Shayna Baszler
Natalya and Baszler attempted submission early on. Vice worked over Natalya and Baszler assisted her with a running knee. Petrovic was tagged in and joined Natalya to use the Hart Attack to win the tag-team encounter.
