Remember when Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan) asked his gang in the iconic film Sholay—“Holi kab hai? Kab hai Holi? Kab?” Well, the festival of colours is finally here. People in every corner of the world are celebrating Holi with much fervour and spirit. From smearing each other’s faces with gulaal to grooving together on the foot-tapping number, Holi truly takes the best out of everyone.
We believe that nothing captures the essence of Holi better than Bollywood films. Yes, most of the Holi moments in Hindi films revolve around a song, but what’s a festival without music?
However, we also have a few exceptional Holi scenes that truly made the film iconic and memorable. On the occasion of this high-spirited festival today, let us take a look at memorable Holi moments from Bollywood movies.
- MohabbateinWhen we talk about Mohabbatein and Holi, the much loved Soni Soni song pops into every mind. But for us, when Shah Rukh Khan approaches Amitabh Bachchan for tilak remains the most iconic. After all, two of India’s biggest stars came face to face in Aditya Chopra’s 2000 directorial.
- Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-LeelaEven without a single dialogue, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh literally set the screen on fire. Before the start of Lahu Muh Lag Gaya, the scene, where Leela approaches Ram with a handful of gulaal, marks the couple’s first meeting in the film. The scene also symbolized electrifying love at first sight. After all Sanjay Leela Bhansali is well-known for epic romances and grand Indian celebrations.
- RaanjhanaaDespite the film being released in 2013, we are still listening to Raanjhanaa’s title track on the loop. It won’t be wrong to say that we get weak in the knees when young Zoya (Sonam Kapoor) puts colour on Kundan’s (Dhanush) face. To be honest everything about this scene is truly endearing. Dhanush’s depiction of a one-sided lover touches every heart. We still get a slight smile on our faces, every time we watch the film.
- PadmaavatNo doubt, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor hit the ball out of the park with their chemistry in the track Holi Ayi Re Piya Ji. But we still get goosebumps when Ranveer Singh, while essaying Allauddin Khilji, reveals his change of strategy and seeks peace with Rajputs. This is when Khilji smears his face in saffron gulaal, symbolising his diplomacy and Holi celebration with Rajputs.
- Kabir SinghLet’s confess, despite being such an intense scene, we all were simply hooked to our seats. From Kabir Singh (Shahid Kapoor) worrying about Preeti (Kiara Advani) to him rushing to the bad guy who smeared her with gulaal, this scene has a special place in the hearts of the movie buffs. Romance, drama, action or intense expression, you name it and this scene was loaded with it all.
Which of these scenes is your favourite?
