BMW India has today launched the all-new 5-series luxury sedan in India for a starting price of Rs 49.9 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Revealed last year, the updated 5-series is designed by taking cues from the elder sibling, 7-series sedan and is both larger and lighter than the outgoing 5-Series.

The new BMW 5-Series is locally produced in India at the company’s Chennai-based manufacturing facility that helped BMW to keep the prices of 5-Series in check. The BMW 5-Series will be offered in three trims – 520d, 530d and 530i and a total of 4 variants. Here is the variant wise pricing of the 5-series sedan-

Production of BMW 5-Series begins in India!

The design of the new BMW 5-Series is borrowed from the latest gen BMW 7-series, and it’s hard to differentiate the two cars, apart from the wheelbase and a few other elements. Some of the design elements include all-LED headlamps, active kidney grille, and LED tail lamps.

The cabin of the BMW 5-Series exudes luxury and gets some new-gen gizmos, like the ones seen on the 7-series. These include the new gesture control for the infotainment system, remote parking function (in select variants), new display unit, 10" tablets for the rear passengers, panoramic sunroof and much more.

BMW 5-series is launched with three engine options in India - a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with 190hp output, a more powerful 3.0-litre, inline-six diesel with 265hp output and a 2.0-litre petrol unit with 252hp output, similar to the one seen under the hood of the 330i GT. All the engines are paired with the eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The new 5-series competes against the likes of the Mercedes E-class long-wheelbase, the Audi A6, the Jaguar XF and the Volvo S90.
