Bengaluru To Get 400 km Metro And Rail Network By 2030
Apart from the metro extension, the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) is being advanced by the Karnataka Rail Infrastructure Development Company Limited (K-RIDE).

The Union Cabinet authorised two corridors for the Phase 3 Bengaluru Metro rail project on August 16.

Reportedly, the anticipated cost of building Namma Metro’s third phase is around Rs. 15,000 crore.

In addition to the Union and State governments’ 20 percent equity investment, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is reportedly anticipated to obtain a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) of more than Rs 7000 crore.

Bengaluru will have a 220.20 km active metro rail network in the event Namma Metro Phase 3 is operationalised. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) about 36.59 km Phase 3A (Red Line) has also been prepared by the BMRCL, Construction World reports.

DPR is awaiting clearance from the state government. Phase 3A will have 28 planned stations along a combination of elevated and subterranean portions that connect Sarjapur to Hebbal, as per the Construction World.

There will be connections between important city places such as Central College, Dairy Circle, Agara, Koramangala, Carmelaram, and Armane Nagar.

Apart from the metro extension, the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) is being advanced by the Karnataka Rail Infrastructure Development Company Limited (K-RIDE).

By the end of 2030, the project—which spans four routes and includes approximately 147 km of rail—should be completed.

Meanwhile, Corridor 1 runs 32.15 kilometres with 21 stations along the Outer Ring Road West, connecting JP Nagar 4th phase to Kempapura.

In addition, Corridor 2 is a 12.50-kilometre stretch of Magadi Road with nine stations that connects Hosahalli to Kadabagere.

The third phase of the Metro project goes largely across Bengaluru’s west and south. Phase 3—also referred to as the Orange Line—is anticipated to be finished by 2029, per BMRCL officials.

The whole Outer Ring Road (ORR) would be improved by Metro connection, with the Blue Line linking Silk Board-Bengaluru Airport through KR Puram along the eastern side of the ORR and the Orange line connecting the western side.

Additionally, at ten locations—JP Nagar 4th Phase, JP Nagar, Mysore Road, Kamakhya bus depot, Sumanahalli, BEL Circle, Peenya, Hebbal, Hosahalli, and Kempapura—the Orange line would enable multi-modal integration.

India’s IT hub could include about 400 km of rail-based public transport if the planned metro and suburban rail networks are built by 2030.
