Bengaluru: Yellow Line Metro On Track For December Launch As Trials Begin
After RDSO completes its oscillation trial report, BMRCL will seek technical approval from the Railway Board.

The Yellow Line of Bangalore‘s metro system is edging closer to its long-awaited debut, as oscillation and Emergency Braking System (EBS) trials kicked off on Monday.

This crucial phase of testing could pave the way for the line’s launch by December.

According to Deccan Herald, the 19.15-km RV Road-Bommasandra stretch is undergoing trials led by the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) from Lucknow. These tests are set to last between 12 and 15 days, according to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).

Before new metro trains hit the tracks, they must pass rigorous tests to ensure they meet safety and comfort standards. The oscillation trials are vital for verifying that the trains can operate safely at high speeds while providing a smooth ride for passengers.

The Yellow Line will feature trains from China’s CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co Ltd, which won a contract in 2019 to supply 216 coaches for Rs 1,578 crore. The prototype six-coach train arrived in February, and 14 more trainsets are expected to arrive from CRRC’s Indian partner, Titagarh Rail System Ltd (TRSL), later this month.

Following the oscillation trials, the RDSO will submit a report to the Railway Board for technical approval. Once approved, the BMRCL will invite the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for a final inspection.

Officials are optimistic that these steps will be completed by November, bringing the Yellow Line closer to its grand opening.
