Parineeti Chopra will soon be seen in Imtiaz Ali’s directorial Amar Singh Chamkila with Diljit Dosanjh. Parineeti had earlier revealed that she has sung nearly 15 songs in the film and it was one of the major reasons why she came on board. At the film’s trailer launch event held today, Parineeti recalled how she sang in front of Diljit, Imtiaz Ali and AR Rahman for the first time on a Zoom call.
Parineeti said, “Mujhe yaad hai, 2 saal pehle, I was on my way to a party. A party that all of us were at by the way. It was, I think Karan’s (Johar) birthday party and I was on the way and suddenly sir (Imtiaz) called me and asked, ‘Where are you right now? Are you free?’ I said, ‘Yes, sir. I’m free right now.’ I thought he’ll just have a chat with me.”
“Diljit shayad US mein the. He (Imtiaz) said, ‘Hum chaaro fatafat Zoom call kar rahe hain, can you do it?’ Toh main literally kisi traffic jam main thi, maine apne driver ko bola ki fatafat gaadi side main roko aur sab chup ho jao. Koi saas bhi nahi lega,” she added.
Recalling the call with Imtiaz, Diljit and AR Rahman, Parineeti said, “Mujhe laga hello hi ho rahi hai, introduction. Rahman sir kehte hain, ‘Aapko gaana aata hai?’ Toh ab main kya boloon? Sir matlab, I like singing. Maine yeh nahi bola ki I can sing or not. Mujhe laga okay safe answer. He said, ‘Okay sing and show.’ I could not believe it. I thought gayi picture, ab toh nahi milegi because he works with the most genius singers and artists in the world.”
Parineeti then revealed that she sang Mast Kalandar for the trio. Parineeti said that while she was cast in the film, there was ‘clearly an audition still going on.’ She said, “I was telling sir ki sabhi gaane main gaungi. Ab toh main kisi ko aane hi nahi doongi picture main.”
The film’s trailer has been released today. The film itself will premiere on Netflix on 12 April 2024.
