Cinematographer Anil Mehta recently opened up about shooting Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’s hit song ‘Tadap Tadap Ke’ with Salman Khan. He revealed how Salman’s impromptu act helped him shoot an iconic scene. The film helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, turned out to be a cult classic.
While speaking to Film Companion, Anil recollected shooting the song in a hot desert and shared, “I remember in the desert, Salman just went with the scene. Otherwise, which hero is going to lie down in the hot sand and ask people to put that sand on him. He was doing it himself and that’s also infectious. You are drawing from that energy and then he started doing some random stuff.”
Opening up further, he shared, “So, I took the camera off the tripod and then I was with Salman in that moment. I soaked in from what he was doing and later the camera also points at the sun which was a ‘no, no’ at the time. Today, it is the norm. But, it was the energy of the piece and the performance and then, of course, there was master of drama at work – Sanjay.”
Anil Mehta’s work in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam earned him the National Film Award for Best Cinematography. He then went on to shoot hit films like Lagaan, Veer Zaara, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Rockstar and Highway among others.
Meanwhile, on the work front, there’s been a lot of buzz about Salman Khan’s next movie with Sajid Nadiadwala, directed by AR Murugadoss. The superstar will soon be seen collaborating with them for his next. Slated to release in 2025, Murugadoss recently opened up about the film. The film is all set to release during Eid 2025. While the title and other details of the film have not been revealed, given the previous stellar records of Salman Khan and Sajid Nadiadwala, it won’t be wrong to say that this yet-to-be-titled project could well be a blockbuster in the making.
