Infosys, IIIT trains SC STs students
Infy said the Special Training Programme for SC,ST students was a resounding success.

Bangalore: Infosys Techologies announced that the Special Training Programme (STP) for SC,ST students, conducted in partnership with the Indian Institute of Information Technology Bangalore was a "resounding success".

The pilot intiative is aimed at enhancing the employability of students from the lower socio-economic background to enable them compete on an equal footing.

Commenting of the success of the initiative during the STP graduation day at the IIIT-B campus, Prof S Sadagopan, director IIIT-B said "the programme showcases the benefits of affirmative action."

"These students were academically sound, but lacked soft skills that would help them find a job in a good company. We have trained them on certain technologies and skills that would make them more industry-ready," he said.

N R Narayana Murthy, chief mentor of Infosys, said the programme revealed that individuals could prove their competence given the right opportunities.

It is a "new experiment to raise the confidence of the students belonging to marginalised sections and to enable them demonstrate that they can add value to the society."

T V Mohandas Pai, member of the board and director, human resources, Infosys, said that the initiative enables students from backward communities participate in the growth the it industry is witnessing.

"The average performance of the STP batch is comparable to a typical batch at Infosys," he said.
