New Delhi: Even as Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs started their dharna outside Parliament demanding a full roll-back of the railway fares and a financial package for West Bengal, CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat lashed out at the party for "putting the Railways in the ICU".
"It is the TMC who has put the Railways in the ICU. The first question Mamata has to answer is regarding the statement made by Dinesh Trivedi that the Railways are in the ICU.
"Who has put the Railways in the ICU except Mamata Banerjee? The budgets she has placed... the huge expenditure of the Railways with the one aim of enabling her to meet her goal to be the chief minister of West Bengal."
Karat added that the CPI(M) was opposed to the hike in the railway fares.
"We are totally opposed to the hike in railway fares. How did Mamata Banerjee keep quiet when the freight charges were raised...? Even for foodgrain... This will directly increase the price of the foodgrains," she said.
Karat continued, "And the manner in which she acted yesterday... This is her usual manner. She says one thing one day and something entirely different the next day."
"It is the Prime Minister's prerogative of who he has in his Cabinet. But the question is, does the PM have any control over how different ministers are utilising their ministries for their own ends. It was clear that Railways were getting bankrupt because of the political agendas that was driving Trinamool Congress. How is the PM, the leader of the collective, allowing this to happen?" she asked.
